Star Valley Jr. Music Festival

June 9-10, 2020

BLUE SKY MUSIC CAMP 2019

This summer, we encourage string players to take advantage of a week-long music camp coming to Thayne, WY! A week-long camp for students of all ages that will take them from the classroom to the stage! With instruction in both a primary and a secondary instrument, they learn improv, backup, and how to play with a band from professional educators & musicians, featuring Aaron Ashton, who has performed with Peter Cetera, William Joseph, Smokey Robinson, Josh Groban, the Opening Ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, and the Country Music Awards. Younger students can start their musical journey through Kodaly classes and games, while older students will have fun learning techniques and preparing for a final performance in their very own bluegrass band!

What We Offer

image51

Performance Opportunities

The Jr. Music Festival is an opportunity for piano, voice, guitar and string students K-12 to perform a prepared piece for an adjudicator.  Students receive critical feedback and hands-on instruction from qualified, university level instructors.  Top performing students in each level are awarded an opportunity to play at the Honors Concerts and receive cash prizes or scholarships to university summer music programs!

Workshops with Outstanding Clinicians

The festival is a unique opportunity in our rural neck of the woods to host guest clinicians from all over the United States.  Musical experts have come from New York, North Carolina, Missouri, Minnesota, San Francisco, Idaho and Utah excited to share techniques with students. We offer workshops in piano, voice, strings, band, and organ, as well as private lessons with our guest clinicians. NEW in 2019, we will offer guitar for both clinic work and judged performance opportunity!

Musical Theater & Youth Opera

In 2019, a shorter version of Youth Opera will be available to students K-12 directed by Janet Erickson. "Broadway Voices" will be a 6-hour, 2-day rehearsal group with a performance at the Wednesday evening concert. No prior experience is necessary to participate, just a desire to sing and have fun!
